Flor De Maria Sanchez, PsyD, LMFT

Flor de Maria Sanchez, PsyD, LMFT, comes to A Step Forward with an extraordinary background, bringing her native language of Spanish and rich life-experience to her work.

Dr. Sanchez has been providing mental health services in the greater Bay Area for over 30 years. She received her PsyD in Psychology at JFK University; her MS in Psychology from the University of San Francisco; and her BA in Psychology from the University of Washington.

Before coming to A Step Forward, Dr. Sanchez built her career at the UCSF Trauma Recovery Center; Catholic Charities; the Santa Clara County Juvenile Detention Center; and the Santa Clara County Department of Alcohol & Drugs Services. She developed a strong background in PTSD, dual diagnosis and anxiety issues and had the opportunity to work with clients from many ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

At A Step Forward, Dr. Sanchez provides specialized treatment to child victims of sexual assault and domestic violence and their families; sexually exploited teens and their families; as well as conducting general therapy. She also works with men who have committed sexual offenses. Dr. Sanchez is bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

Dr. Sanchez was born in El Salvador. She came to the United States with her widowed mother and three sisters when she was seven years old. To this day she attributes her independence and ability to overcome life’s difficulties to her mother’s example of love and perseverance.

Dr. Sanchez is a member of CAMFT and the American Psychological Association. When she is not in the office, she enjoys her family, attending live theater productions, her dog, and good food.
